The culmination of a massive, company-wide effort, Season One was the single largest content update League of Legends had received to date, as well as the start of the first major competitive season. The major features of Season One included Draft Mode, Ranked Games, Ladders and more updates that helped elevate the game to a whole new level of competitive play.
Season One features:
• Ranked Games – Summoners at Level 30 are now able to participate in the ranked game system. These summoners join one of three queues: 3v3 Premade, 5v5 Premade, or 5v5 Solo and receive an individual rating for each of these queues.
• Ladders – Players participating in Ranked Games now have their Elo ratings publically displayed on the League of Legends ladders, where they can see how they stack up against the rest of their fellow summoners.
• Draft Mode – In ranked games, the champions selection takes the form of a live draft in which players alternate picking champions for play by their team. Drafted champions are exclusive to the team that has selected them and not available for play by the opposing team. Additionally players now have the option to ban a limited number of champions from play by either side.
• Improved Visual Styles – In preparation for the update, both PvP.net and the League of Legends website received a visual overhaul that included a brand new and exciting look and feel as well as easier navigation.
